Quick Start Guide for Abstultus Retro Virtual Machines

This guide will help you quickly launch your free Retro Virtual Machine (VM) from Abstultus.

Before You Begin

  • Create an Abstultus Account: An Abstultus account is needed to manage and launch your Retro Virtual Machine.
  • Update Your Web Browser: Updating your web browser ensures a consistent experience when using the Abstultus control panel.

Step 1: Add to Account

Each Abstultus account can claim a single free Retro Virtual Machine. You can add a Retro Virtual Machine to your account from the Manage section of the Abstultus control panel.

To add a Retro VM to your account:

  1. Go to the Abstultus control panel.
  2. Navigate to the Manage tab.
  3. Locate the Retro VM management panel.
  4. Use the dropdown to choose a Retro VM type.
  5. Press the Add Retro VM to your Account button. Once added, the virtual machine will appear in the Available Retro VMs section.
Notes on Adding
  • Retro VMs are for NON-PRODUCTION ONLY.
  • Retro VMs are ALWAYS FREE.
  • Only ONE Retro VM can be added to your account. To choose another OS, first remove any existing Retro VM from your account.
  • A Retro Virtual Machine can be added and removed an unlimited number of times.

Step 2: Launch

You can power cycle and access any virtual machine that you have provisioned or has been assigned to you.

Virtual machines are power cycled and accessed from Launch section of the Abstultus control panel.

How to Power Cycle:

  1. Go to the Abstultus control panel.
  2. Navigate to the Launch tab.
  3. Find the virtual machine you want to power cycle then:
    1. If the machine is Stopped:
      1. use the Power On button to turn the machine on.
    2. If the machine is Running or Suspended:
      1. use the Shutdown button to cleanly power down the machine (equivalent to issuing a shutdown command from the operating system).
      2. use the Kill button to abruptly turn the machine off (equivalent to pulling the plug).

    How to Access:

    1. Go to the Abstultus control panel.
    2. Navigate to the Launch tab.
    3. Find the Retro virtual machine you want to access and press the
      Advanced button and choose Launch Console. A console to the Retro machine will open in a new browser tab.
    4. You do not require credentials to log into a Retro Machine.
